You! People buy into people and just by being true to yourself and your values, people will love to hear your story.

If you run or own a business, then here are my four top tips for copywriting. Make sure you don’t miss my bonus tip at the end.

Be You

The art of storytelling is all about you, your story and the emotion behind it, including the highs and lows. Embrace who you are by being authentic, open and honest. Always stay true to your values.

Research

What’s your ‘why’? What do you hope to achieve and who are you aiming your copy at? Who’s your audience and where are you likely to find them?

Research your industry and tap into current trends to make your copy relevant and significant. Look at what your competitors are doing. How are you doing things differently? What value can you add?

Copywriting

Life is complicated enough so don’t overcomplicate your copy by choosing complex words. Think about telling your story as you would to a friend. Choose words you feel comfortable using and those that best describe you.

Your focus should always be on your customer journey. You may have a new product, but you need to tell your customers why that product is so great for them. Does it mean a faster turnaround leading to an increase in productivity?

Include search engine optimisation (SEO) keywords and keep your sentences short and to the point.

The Five ‘W’ Effect

Journalists and copywriters use who, what, when, where and why as the main framework for their copy. The ‘5Ws’ will help you to shape your words and frame your story.

Bonus Top Tip for Copywriting

You can never read your copy too many times. Read it forwards, read it backwards, cover your ears and say it out loud. Often, we read what we think should be there and not what’s right in front of us.

If you can, ask someone to read it for you. Do they understand what you are saying? Another pair of eyes is always better than one.

Stuck for Words?

A professional copywriter can tell a compelling story. I will find your strongest story and make your words count by simplifying complex information and making your copy relevant and engaging.

I will create curiosity and add value to your brand by talking directly to your audience, grabbing their attention and compelling them to take action.
