Demystifying PR for Sole Traders

An illustrative guide from Katie Walden Illustration from the AD:Venture online workshop on introduction to PR for new businesses, delivered by Sophie Seddon PR.

I’m still buzzing from delivering an online public relations workshop for AD:VENTURE business support.

The session was packed with brilliant business owners eager to learn how to refine their public relations strategy, and the enthusiasm in the (virtual) room was contagious.

From “really great session, Sophie, thank you so much,” to “amazing session, thanks still wiping away my tears,” it’s safe to say we had a blast.

Here are a few highlights from the feedback that completely made my day.

  • “You have demystified PR in a way that is useful for sole traders.’

That is exactly what I aim for. Making public relations accessible and practical no matter the size of your business.

  • “It’s been an absolutely fantastic session – thank you so much, Sophie. It’s given me lots of ideas to focus on.”

This is music to my ears. If I can help spark ideas and give you the tools to tell your own story, I’m happy.

  • “Off to find a tissue – still wiping away my tears.”

We even had a bit of emotional storytelling. There’s nothing like a powerful story to connect us all, and this one resonated on a personal level.

But the real showstopper was a live illustration by Katie Walden Illustration in my signature blue branding no less.

Katie cleverly captured key moments of the workshop with a live illustration. Her beautiful visual note taking brought the session and stories to life and reflected everything we discussed perfectly.

Thank you, Katie.

I wrapped up the session knowing that storytelling isn’t just for writers. “I am not a storyteller, but I have a story,” as one participant so beautifully said.

And that’s the essence of public relations. Finding your story, refining it, and sharing it with the world.

Thank you to everyone who joined and for the incredible feedback. I loved every second, and I’m excited to see how you all refine your offerings with the structures and tips we covered.

Until next time, keep telling those stories because, yes, you Do have one.
