Some mornings start early, some nights end late, and some days feel like they’re all about running from one thing to the next.
This week, I was invited to share my business journey at AD:VENTURE peer-to-peer networking at Huddersfield’s Cedar Court Hotel, alongside some brilliant local businesses.
Every business is a work in progress, mine included. Different stages, different challenges, same drive.
I also dropped into the Huddersfield Health and Innovation Incubator (HHII) to hear about their plans as they move into phase two.
I’m delighted to be supporting them again through mentoring this year.
Catching up with clients and local businesses at the Federation of Small Business (FSB) at Manor House Lindley was another highlight.
And then there were moments at my desk, working on a comms strategy, core messaging and website copy, when it all just clicked. Goosebumps. The moment you feel the passion. Helping others tell their story.
My mum always said: “It’s what you put into life, not what you take from it.”
In business, that means showing up consistently, trusting your gut, and not worrying about having all the answers.
She also told me about the hare and the tortoise. Slow and steady, but purposeful. I didn’t see it then, but I do now. It’s easy to compare ourselves to others. We all set off in the boat, but some paddle faster. The trick is to keep moving forward, however small the steps feel.
Events like AD:VENTURE, HHII and FSB aren’t just dates in the diary. They’re spaces to share stories, swap ideas, and learn from each other. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Curiosity, drive, and the willingness and support to put yourself out there are enough.
Slow, steady, passionate progress (like the hare and the tortoise) builds a business, builds confidence, and builds impact. And along the way, the stories we share and the people we help are the best rewards of all.
Helping people find the confidence, clarity and strategy to share their story.
Your words said and done.
