Turning complexity into clarity

Where precision engineering meets visual storytelling. Five illustrated explainers that made BEP’s highly technical processes make sense — to policymakers, investors and staff alike.

01 The Challenge

Highly technical work that was difficult to communicate

While BEP’s work is genuinely impressive, its specialised electroplating processes were difficult to communicate to non-technical audiences. The business needed content that would raise its profile, support policy influence, and highlight the scale, resilience and investment behind its work — to policymakers, investors and its own workforce alike.

02 The approach

‘Illustrated Explainers’. Technical processes as accessible stories

Sophie Seddon PR and Katie Walden Illustration developed a series that turned complex processes into engaging, accessible visual stories — with a playful ‘Where’s Wally?’ theme running through five episodes.

  1. Research & planning

Identifying core themes from existing communications to ensure brand alignment from the outset.
  2. Factory visits & workforce insights

Capturing live sketches, workflows, and the human side of BEP’s technology – on the floor, with the people who make it.
  3. Visual storytelling

Five illustrated episodes covering defence, oil & gas, transportation, energy and packaging.
  4. Integrated PR strategy

Linking illustrations to real-world outcomes, supporting use across policy engagement, internal communications and social media.

03 The Result

Complexity, made compelling

Turn the pages of the finished campaign – the same illustrated narrative that became a printed booklet, factory-floor prints and a social series.

The explainer at BEP has gone excellently. We have sent it out directly with handwritten notes to over 200 people, and we have a representative targeting the defence industry who uses it too.

As a result, we are having far more conversations, some of which have already resulted in work.
Sophie's written word and presentation skills are superb. The power of her words, combined with her approachable and personable nature, made me want to work with her from the outset.

Her ability to communicate our message clearly and effectively has helped generate new conversations and business opportunities.

04 What it became

One narrative – printed, displayed, shared

A single illustrated story that worked hard across every channel, giving it lasting commercial value.

High-quality A5 printed booklets for internal and external audiences.

Illustrated graphics for social and digital campaigns.

A3 prints for factory displays – celebrating staff and industry strength.

A profile-raising asset for policy engagement and stakeholder trust.

05 Why it matters

Complexity doesn’t have to be inaccessible – or boring

Visual storytelling has the power to influence, educate and inspire. The Illustrated Explainers clearly show BEP’s leadership, resilience and commitment to excellence — positioning the business as an industry leader and reliable partner, and demonstrating the real-world impact of precision engineering.

Makes technical content understandable and compelling for policymakers, investors and staff — and strengthens trust and credibility with every stakeholder.
